Can’t-Wait Wednesday: Pride, by Ibi Zoboi

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a blog meme hosted by Tressa @ Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming anticipated releases!

This week I am excited for…

x500Pride by Ibi Zoboi

Release: September 18, 2018

Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

AmazonBook Depository

Synopsis via Goodreads: Zuri Benitez has pride. Brooklyn pride, family pride, and pride in her Afro-Latino roots. But pride might not be enough to save her rapidly gentrifying neighborhood from becoming unrecognizable.

When the wealthy Darcy family moves in across the street, Zuri wants nothing to do with their two teenage sons, even as her older sister, Janae, starts to fall for the charming Ainsley. She especially can’t stand the judgmental and arrogant Darius. Yet as Zuri and Darius are forced to find common ground, their initial dislike shifts into an unexpected understanding.

But with four wild sisters pulling her in different directions, cute boy Warren vying for her attention, and college applications hovering on the horizon, Zuri fights to find her place in Bushwick’s changing landscape, or lose it all.

Before I unleash my thoughts, can we just take a second to admire this GORGEOUS cover… fr take a nice long look because that thing is stunning!

MOVING ON. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite classics ever written with that hate-to-love romance trope making my heart melt every time. Therefore, ever since I first read the synopsis of this one I was IMMEDIATELY hooked and dying to get my hands on it. I love how it seems to differ from the original story but also keeps the overall essence of the relationship between the original couple — now Darius and Zuri. I’m super excited to see how this entire story will unfold (especially with the aspects of  gentrification. s/o to my AP Human Geo class for informing me on all of that) and I can already tell I will have a new OTP to add to the list!

Also, can I just say… I’m REALLY hoping Zuri has the same IDGAF personality as Elizabeth. I’ve been dying to read about a character who is confident in themselves and their surroundings, not feeling a tad bit embarrassed to be who they are. *Fingers crossed* !!

Feel free to let me know if you’re also hyped for Pride and/or what other book(s) you’re anticipating. Until next time,

Happy Reading! ♡xoxo

    1. Yesss it’s definitely one of my most anticipated releases! I loved P&P but have yet to read American Street so i’ll have to get on that. I read her short story in Meet Cute though and loved it so I can’t wait for this one 🙂
