Happy May everyone! It’s the beginning of a new month so you know what that means, wrap up time!! I sadly didn’t get to read many books (like AT ALL) this month because I got assigned many end-of-the-year projects and got into a bit of a reading slump, but from what I read, I did get to enjoy some interesting reads!
Gone Rogue (Wires and Nerve #2), by Marissa Meyer w/ art by Stephen Gilpin
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
As always, it’s wonderful to get back into the world of The Lunar Chronicles and the graphic novel versions have been a blast! I thought that Iko was such a badass in this and her moments with Kinney were super cute. I also really enjoyed the moments with Scarlet and Wolf since we didn’t get to have moments with them in the previous installment. However, I do think that the ending was too easily wrapped up and I wish that we could have gotten more scenes with Cress and Thorne (since they are literally my OTP for life). Overall, i’m super emo that these graphic novels are done, but we do get more of Marissa Meyer’s creative writing in the future so i’m thrilled for that!
Truly Devious, by Maureen Johnson
Rating: ★★★★.5☆ (4.5/5)
I’m an actual sucker for any kind of murder mystery novels so this one definitely had me hyped from the get-go! I love how it took place at a boarding school in northern Maine (because when do books EVER take place there??!) and all of the characters were super exciting to meet. Stevie was a great person to read from the perspective of because even though she’s this mini-Sherlock, I found myself relating to her countless of times. The plot also had me hooked from the start and left me gasping at the end of every chapter so you could say i’m definitely a fan. Plus, this one left things off on SUCH a cliffhanger so i’m extremely excited for the sequel to come out!
Ace of Shades, by Amanda Foody
Rating: ★★★★.5☆ (4.5/5)
This novel is sososo unique and, overall, such a fantastic start to a new series! Fantasies are sometimes a hit-or-miss with me, but I was reaally hoping to like this since it has an original premise that I’ve never seen before in YA. I’m happy to say that it was such a wonderful read with an adventure that didn’t let up until the very end. Seriously, I could NOT put this novel down and a main reason for that is the dynamic plot and a cast full of chemistry. It goes between the POVs of Enne and Levi; both creating some hilarious banter from their first scene together and being totally shippable btw. The side characters were also really interesting and i’m excited to learn more about them as the series unravels. I did think that the ending events were a little anti-climatic, but i’m still extremely anticipating the sequel to this lovely novel!
What are some books that you read in April? Have you heard of/read any of the books I mentioned above? What is on your TBR for May? Until next time.
Happy Reading! ♡
