The Friday 56 is a blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice and has three simple rules:
- Grab a book, any book.
- Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
- Find any sentence (or a few, just don’t spoil anything) that pulls your attention.
- Post it!
This seemed like a pretty simple task and also sounds super fun (especially because i’m interested to see what sentences I find)!
This weeks book:
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Publication Date: August 9, 2016
Genres: Chick Lit, Romance, Contemporary
Synopsis via Goodreads: Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.
Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.
“‘So who’s your date with?’
‘A guy.’ I’ll find one between now and the end of the workday. I’ll hire a guy if I have to. I’ll call a modeling agency and ask for the catch of the day. He’ll pick me up in a limo out front of B&G and Joshua will have egg on his face.”
I swear, the banter between Lucy and Josh in this novel is the best i’ve ever read. After finding this quote, I reread a lot of my favorite scenes from the story and was cheesing SO FREAKING HARD. The chemistry is gold!!
That’s all for today’s post! Let me know down below if you’ve read The Hating Game and/or some of your favorite romances. Until next time,
Happy Reading! ♡
